Referral Marketing Advice & Resources

This section of our website has been designed to provide you with all the information you require to make an informed decision as to whether referral marketing (sometimes known as Network Marketing, Multi-Level Marketing and/or Direct Selling) is the right choice for you.

Referral marketing has had a lot of bad press in the past, but now is seen to be a very credible industry with its own governing body and praise from the UK government as a major contributor to the UK economy.

Below you will find links to various articles / resources on the subject of referral marketing that aim to dispel any queries you may have about the industry. Should you be seeking advice and resources on working from home please click here.

Half Price Sign-Ups / Former Excel Communications Distributors

Vartec, the parent company of ETI/Excel has recently filed for bankruptcy protection in America. This means that Excel distributors are currently being informed that they will no longer earn any residual income on the customers they had previously gathered.

The situation is certainly very unfortunate for all those Excel distributors who have been left high and dry by Excel in the UK.

These events mean that Telecom plus is the natural place for all former UK based Excel distributors to come to in order to continue earning from your previous efforts.

To assist you to do so, and in recognition of the unfortunate position they you find yourselves in through no fault of your own, we have decided for a limited period to enable you to join Telecom plus as an ID for half price – just £99 instead of the usual joining fee of £199.99.

This special offer will only apply until the end of November. To be eligible for this offer, you must attach proof of your Excel distributorship (a copy of a recent commission statement) to your application.

Unlike Telecom plus which is profitable, debt free and has substantial cash reserves, Vartec owed hundreds of millions of dollars which they had borrowed to finance their growth. Telecom plus is financially secure and will be around in the long term.

A Statement By our Chief Executive.

"I am often asked by Executives whether I have any plans to sell Telecom plus, and what would happen to their CVC if something were to happen to me.

I wish to state publicly and unambiguously that I remain totally committed to building Telecom plus into one of the UK’s leading utility businesses and have no interest in selling the business to anyone.

However, even if something were to happen to me, the reality is that the most valuable part of our business is our Executives. Without their continued effort and support, we would have a business that was shrinking (rather than growing) and worth a fraction of its current value.

Keeping faith with our Executives is the only way of ensuring they keep faith with us. It is wholly inconceivable anyone could be stupid enough to acquire this business at any time in the future, and destroy its most valuable asset."

Books

The more you learn, the more earn!

Along with the help and support you will receive from your upline you will also need to educate yourself if you truly want to succeed.

Note: Some people have to study for years to become proficient in their chosen industry; so don’t expect to know everything about Network Marketing in a day. You need to spend time learning from your sponsor and from books/tapes. And as such there are 3 books that we recommend everyone purchase at their earliest convenience, or at least borrow from your sponsor.

1. The Big Picture, by Edward Ludbrook. This book will give you the knowledge so that you can explain about our industry and its future growth potential.

2. The 45 Second Presentation, by Don Failla. Want to know how to build a large successful Network Marketing organisation; well this is the book to show you how.

3. Skill With People, by Les Giblin. People skills are at the heart of our business and if one thing will help you more than any other to succeed – it is people skills.

These 3 books are the basics, but I must stress, never stop educating yourself in this industry or how to best improve your business. Ask your sponsor for more recommended reading.

Other excellent books written by world-renowned networking Leaders:

"The Greatest Networker in the World" by John Milton Fogg.

"Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki.

"Think and Grow Rich" By Napoleon Hill.

"How to be a Successful Self-employed Woman" By Nancy Failla.

"Questions are the Answers" By Allan Pease.

This is by no way an exhaustive list. If you can recommend any other useful books by all means contact us and I will add it to the list, (after I have read it first of course).

Home Business Reading.

Read All The Books by Jim Rohn

All of the books that we will ever need to make us as rich, as healthy, as happy, as powerful, as sophisticated and as successful as we want to be have already been written.

People from all walks of life, people with some of the most incredible life experiences, people that have gone from pennies to fortune and from failure to success have taken the time to write down their experiences so that we might share in their wealth of knowledge. They have offered their wisdom and experience so that we can be inspired by it and instructed by it, and so that we can amend our philosophy by it. Their contributions enable us to reset our sail based upon their experiences. They have handed us the gift of their insights so that we can change our plans, if need be, in order to avoid their errors. We can rearrange our lives based on their wise advice.

All of the insights that we might ever need have already been captured by others in books. The important question is this: In the last ninety days, with this treasure of information that could change our lives, our fortunes, our relationships, our health, our children and our careers for the better, how many books have we read?

Why do we neglect to read the books that can change our lives? Why do we complain but remain the same? Why do so many of us curse the effect but nourish the cause? How do we explain the fact that only three percent of our entire national population possess a library card - a card that would give us access to all of the answers to success and happiness we could ever want? Those who wish for the better life cannot permit themselves to miss the books that could have a major impact on how their lives turn out. The book they miss will not help!

And the issue is not that books are too expensive! If a person concludes that the price of buying the book is too great, wait until he must pay the price for not buying it. Wait until he receives the bill for continued and prolonged ignorance.

How to Set Goals

by Gayle Carson

Timing is a critical part of any success story. And the goals which you write down are the script for yours. Goal-setting works infinitely better when the goals are written down. Not only is there a ready checklist of your objectives and priorities, but the very act of writing them forces you to take control and get organized.

If you are to chart a course for yourself, you must have an idea of where you want to go! Written lists of goals do that. More basically, they help you to order and control your day.

1. Goals must be specific and measurable.

2. They must be stated positively and in the present. (No, "I will not's")

3. They must be attainable.

4. They must aim at basic personality changes.

5. They must start with "I" or "We".

6. They should be fun.

Keep your goals in a small notebook which you carry with you at all times, and add "a-ha's" to it as you think of them. Haven't you had a brilliant brainstorm in the middle of the night and by the time morning came you had forgotten the idea that you were sure was going to change the world!

Unfortunately, our minds only allow us to remember, on average, 40% of what we want to when we want to, so write it down.

Keep the notebooks in sections according to ideas. Your ideas, properly implemented , are what will make or break your success script. Make room for them. As they accumulate, having the ideas organized by section will make it easier for you to find them. Also write your daily "to do" list in this notebook.

Do You Make These Common Mistakes When Talking to People?

Copyright 2004, Peter Murphy

Superior people skills are the hallmark of all exceptionally successful people. Neglect this critical skill and you limit both your career prospects and your social life.

Still, it is easy to get complacent and many of us are on the verge of communication skills mastery but we keep making the same mistakes again and again.

There are three common mistakes you may be making without even realizing it. Read on to discover the solutions to these problems.

1. Judging Your Performance Against Unrealistic Standards

Be honest with yourself.

Accept that where you are now in terms of your communication skills is only your starting point - not your finishing point.

And assess your performance and your progress against your typical level of effectiveness. Not against some desired state of perfection or ultimate goal.

Goals are very important as a destination to aim for but do not use long term goals as a standard to judge your current performance against - that is a recipe for disillusionment and massive frustration.

I know. Because I tried it!

2. The Failure To Learn Each Day

As people we can be lazy. This means that a lack of follow through on our goals can go unnoticed. After all we can always catch up some other day.

This attitude will kill your dreams faster than you can spell failure.

When I started to make massive improvements in how I related to people I dedicated myself to becoming excellent.

Once I had proven strategies the rest was easy. I just applied the material each day. I improved each day because I made it a priority and because I committed to applying the material.

Now...

I also know people who learned the same peak performance strategies I learned. Today they are no farther ahead than they were years ago.

How did they pull that off?

By putting it off until another day and by neglecting to use what they had learned. Implementation is crucial.

If you follow through progress is a certainty.

What Is Direct Sales?

The new secret of success is distribution, distribution, distribution.

The Economist Newspaper 28th Feb 1998

After years of being a quiet achiever, Direct Sales has been propelled into the spotlight by the brash new Internet based companies that are 'selling direct'; companies like Dell Computers and Amazon.com. Their influence has turned 'selling direct' into the hottest industry in the world and turned the 50 years old traditional Direct Sales industry on its head.

Direct Sales is a method of distributing consumer products directly to customers. Instead of selling through shops, Direct Sales uses a marketing network of people (called a direct sales 'Representative' or Rep) to find customers and move products. Representatives are also known as Independent Business Owners, Distributors, Consultants or Networkers.

There are two types of Direct Sales that you could join: Single Level (SLM) or Multi Level Marketing (MLM)(sometimes known as Network Marketing). The difference between the two is that in MLM, you also have the opportunity to develop a Marketing Network from which you will earn commissions on the sales of multiple levels of reps.

With the changes brought on by the Internet, all Direct Sales companies are changing and the difference between different types are blurring. MLM companies are refocusing on customer sales and SLM companies are investigating MLM for growth strategies. We'll just call them all 'Direct Sales' and we assume that they have included some sort of multi-level network income opportunity.

Networking in Direct Sales creates the opportunity for very large incomes, which is why so many already successful business people and professionals are joining the industry. That said, the vast majority of Networkers are looking to earn only a few hundred dollars a month to increase their lifestyle. Anyone can succeed because you work with a set system at your own speed, just like owning a franchise.

History of Direct Sales

First Growth Wave. The Direct Sales Wave

The concept of selling directly to customers in their homes has existed for centuries yet the organised mass-market version, like most new marketing methods started in the USA. Avon was one of the first to develop and now is the largest company in this industry.

In the 1940's, a company called Californian Vitamins first allowed its direct sales people to also recruit other sales people for a commission on their recruit's sales. They created the first MLM Direct Sales Company. Two of the top salesmen then formed the Amway Corporation, which has become the next largest Direct Sales company in the world, with annual sales...

Face Your Fears

Facing The Enemies Within

by Jim Rohn

We are not born with courage, but neither are we born with fear. Maybe some of our fears are brought on by your own experiences, by what someone has told you, by what you've read in the papers.

Some fears are valid, like walking alone in a bad part of town at two o'clock in the morning. But once you learn to avoid that situation, you won't need to live in fear of it.

Fears, even the most basic ones, can totally destroy our ambitions. Fear can destroy fortunes. Fear can destroy relationships. Fear, if left unchecked, can destroy our lives. Fear is one of the many enemies lurking inside us.

Let me tell you about five of the other enemies we face from within. The first enemy that you've got to destroy before it destroys you is indifference. What a tragic disease this is. "Ho-hum, let it slide. I'll just drift along." Here's one problem with drifting: you can't drift your way to the top of the mountain.

The second enemy we face is indecision. Indecision is the thief of opportunity and enterprise. It will steal your chances for a better future. Take a sword to this enemy.

The third enemy inside is doubt. Sure, there's room for healthy skepticism. You can't believe everything. But you also can't let doubt take over. Many people doubt the past, doubt the future, doubt each other, doubt the government, doubt the possibilities and doubt the opportunities. Worse of all, they doubt themselves. I'm telling you, doubt will destroy your life and your chances of success. It will empty both your bank account and your heart. Doubt is an enemy Go after it. Get rid of it.

The fourth enemy within is worry. We've all got to worry some. Just don't let it conquer you. Instead, let it alarm you. Worry can be useful. If you step off the curb in New York City and a taxi is coming, you've got to worry. But you can't let worry loose like a mad dog that drives you into a small corner. Here's what you've got to do with your worries: drive them into a small corner. Whatever is out to get you, you've got to get it. Whatever is pushing on you, you've got to push back.

The fifth interior enemy is over-caution. It is the timid approach to life. Timidity is not a virtue; it's an illness. If you let it go, it'll conquer you. Timid people don't get promoted. They don't advance and grow and become powerful in the marketplace. You've got to avoid over-caution.

Do battle with the enemy. Do battle with your fears. Build your courage to fight what's holding you back, what's keeping you from your goals and dreams. Be courageous in your life and in your pursuit of the things you want and the person you want to become.

To Your Success,

Jim Rohn

Developing the Right Attitude For Making Money Online

by Terry Dean

Do you really want to make money online? Do you want to develop a business which can make money for you 24 hours a day 7 days a week almost automatically?

I am sure you do...Or else you wouldn't be reading this article right this minute. I have good news...and bad news for those of you desire this for yourself.

The Good News is...YES, you can do it. Many others have created full-time incomes while only working part-time online. It is within your grasp. Plus, many of them have started with little or no money!

The Bad News is...Many of you will need a change of attitude before you will be able to reach your goals.

That's right...Even with the right information and the right foundation, many people have still failed in their online ventures just because they did not develop the right attitude. An old statement that comes to mind right now for me is "Your Attitude determines your Altitude."

Your success in life cannot bypass your attitude about life. If your mindset is that you are poor and always will be poor, it will show itself in anything you do. No matter what you do, your results will be poor in your business.

Having a positive mentality about yourself and about your business is a part of this right attitude, but that is not what I want to focus on in this section. I want to focus on your reasons and vision for your business.Do you really want to make money online? Do you want to develop a business which can make money for you 24 hours a day 7 days a week almost automatically?

I am sure you do...Or else you wouldn't be reading this ezine right this minute. I have good news...and bad news for those of you desire this for yourself.

I want to focus on your reasons and vision for your business.

If your vision for your business is to just make enough money for a little extra income or to just produce a full-time income for yourself, you will be severely limiting your results. If that is you, you need a change of attitude.

Those who are the most successful people in business are the ones who LOOK for problems and develop solutions to them. They have a vision which is bigger than just to make a little money. They have a vision to solve problems for others.

YES, you need to learn about Internet Marketing Techniques and about how to write killer ad copy. Yes, you need to know how to produce sales, BUT what is it that you are selling?

Are you selling just another product OR are you selling a SOLUTION to people's problems. Are you just in business to make a little money or do you honestly care about helping other people? The ones who become the most successful in their business are the ones who find a NEED and fill it. They develop the answer that people need.

This factor is true and can be applied no matter what type of business you are in. For example, if you run a network marketing site, are you just trying to hype people up in your program OR are you becoming a source for information on how they can succeed through this method of distribution.

LOOK for problems...

People are frustrated with learning how to submit to search engines!

People are frustrated with learning how to use certain software!

People are frustrated with not being able to produce sales!

People are frustrated with health problems!

Look for these types of problems and frustrations and develop or find products which have the answers. In other words, DON'T just try to think of new ways to make money...Think of ways to solve more problems for more people! Then, the money will come once you learn the marketing side of the equation.

Too often we want someone to just hand us a completely developed business or a business-in-a-box. The truth of the matter though is that most of the time, these types of plans just don't exist. Any type of business you get involved in will require you to begin thinking of new ways to advance it if you want to be as successful as possible.

The Good News is that all you have to do is start changing your attitude over to being a problem solver. What problems are still out there in your specific market? What problems do people have when they order from your competition? What can you do to make your product or service a better answer to people's needs?

When you ask yourself these types of questions you are often taking the first step to success. You are recognizing the problem. Now, with the right attitude, you can start looking for the solution. You have the question. Now, Apply the thinking, brainstorming, research, and work to find the answer.

Some Tips Regarding The Startup Of Your First Home Based Business

Over the last few years I have helped thousands of people start their own home based businesses. Many of these folks have become quite successful and others, for various reasons, have failed to achieve success.

People starting out in their first home based business adventure almost always suffer information overload in the early stages of trying to get their business up and running. I often refer to this as the "taking a drink from a fire hose syndrome".

For the first time home business entrepreneur there will be a great deal of "newness" to virtually all aspects of getting their business started. When you combine all of this "newness" along with the natural sense of excitement and eagerness, it is easy to understand how people can easily fall prey to the feeling of being overwhelmed and lost.

To a degree, the confusion/frustration/overload situation frequently encountered in the initial startup phase is often similar to the old saying about trying to run before learning to walk.

The steepness (is that a word?) of the learning curve depends not only upon the particular type of business that is being undertaken, but also upon the background and skills of the person starting the business. In any event, when first starting out, people will usually try to move forward too quickly.

I caution people to come to grips with reality and to be realistic in their expectations. Far too many folks read advertisements that are hype and imply quick money, and lots of it, from a home-based business start-up. It will certainly take at least a year, and in some cases two to three years, before you should expect to begin to truly make a significant profit from your business.

It takes a lot of time to successfully market and promote a new business. Starting out a new business with the expectation of earning a full time income from a part time effort is not very realistic and is likely to lead to disappointment.

If you are planning on starting a home-based business with the intention of spending a great deal of time with young children or caring for a sick or elderly family member, a full-time home business (and income) may not be a realistic objective from a time availability standpoint. Try to reconcile your income expectations with the amount of time that you have available to devote to starting your home business.

You can expect to experience periods of doubt in the early stages of developing your business...did I pick a viable business opportunity?...am I doing the right things to develop my business?...when will I start making a profit?, and so on.

A person working at a home based business may also experience occasional periods of feeling isolated...a feeling which is probably brought on by the lack of interaction of a work force or office environment.

Whatever type of home based business that you choose to start, you can rest assured that there will be some bumps in the road leading to your success. You should expect to experience the "two steps forward and one step backward" thing and try to avoid the ever-looming temptation to become overly discouraged when you take one of those backward steps. It is very easy to lose sight of the obvious fact that as long as you have more steps forward than backward you will eventually get ahead!

Working From Home – Have YOU Got What It Takes?

by Lucy Cole-Radice

Have you got the YOU factor to work from home?

Making the decision to move away from traditional forms of employment to work from home and take sole responsibility for personal income is one that more and more people are choosing for various reasons.

This article will help you determine whether or not such a business option is for you.

With the emergence of network marketing as a viable home based business option to counter traditional business, it is little wonder that many believe they are qualified for success that network marketing systems offer.

Currently, network marketing annual sales are nearing $20 billion in the US alone with approximately 8 million people distributing such products. According to Mark and Renee Yarnell in their book Your First Year In Network Marketing “95% of those who survive 10 years in network marketing become wealthy beyond their wildest expectations.” Becoming a successful distributor, which can lead to such rewards, is not merely a process of just signing up. Sadly, many quit in their first year.

Working from home is a business decision that can literally change your life if you are prepared to do what it takes to survive in such an industry.

The beauty of your own network marketing distributorship is that although you are in business for yourself, you are never in business by yourself. The mentoring systems set in place by all successful network marketing companies ensures that everyone is supported throughout the training process and during the life of their business.

It is however, important to understand that it is up to the individual to take responsibility for their own training and skill levels not their mentor. The faster you train yourself and achieve the necessary skills the faster the growth of your business.

Based on this premise, there are many who believe that success is about luck. In this business, success is not only what you wish for but rather what you work for.

Before you make a decision to become involved in your own home business, there are a number of qualities or YOU factors that have been identified as keys to success in the network marketing industry.

1. Adaptable to Change – do you welcome change in your life?

2. Life Long Learner – are you open to learning new skills?

3. Good Communication – do you enjoy communicating with people?

4. Loyalty – are you able to commit to the company’s products and regular trainings?

5. Realistic Goal Setter – do you understand that building a successful business takes time (years)?

6. Perseverance – are you able to remain consistent and persistent at working to build your business?

7. Leadership – do you enjoy helping others to succeed?

8. Accepts Personal Growth – are you prepared to take on personal development?

9. Team Player – do you understand that success in network marketing is a team approach?

10. Self Sufficient – are you willing to continually invest money back into your business?

11. Independent/ Self Starter – are you able to follow instructions and work at tasks on your own without supervision?

12. Problem Solver – are you able to ask questions to clarify areas of your business that you don’t understand?

13. Time Manager – are you able to appropriate the amount of time to your business that is commensurate with your commitment eg. full or part time?

14. Self Belief/Motivation – when your business confidence is low (which there will be times) are you able to take stock and move forward rather than quit?

If you feel that you have qualified yourself for the above keys to success then working from home based business in the network marketing industry might be the vehicle for the financial and/or time rewards experienced by many who have made the decision to take control of their future and ride it all the way to the top.
